steverie To me, listening to this record is like visiting an old friend. I don't always make the time to spend time with it, but when I do those moments are special. Modest Mouse went on to do bigger and better things than this in their career to be sure, but this has an energetic and youthful sensibility to it that they've never quite replicated since. Highly recommended. Favorite track: Dramamine.

njs It's amazing when you find music that's as thematically and instrumentally poignant and consistent as this. Modest Mouse has an astounding capability of making one feel unique blends of emotion through their work, and the instrumentals and vocals of each track serves that cause perfectly. Favorite track: Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset.

about

MODEST MOUSE’S 1996 ALBUM AVAILABLE ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 10 YEARS.

"This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About" expands upon the themes of emotional and geographic isolation found in the band’s early recordings, and finds the band mixing slow, brooding numbers with thrashing guitar workouts. The general mood here is one of loneliness and desperation, eloquently expressed through both the lyrics and the rhythmic, sprawling instrumentation. Modest Mouse made their first significant mark with songs whose meanings are simultaneously universal and painfully personal.
